The aim of the Educational Programme at the Animateka festival is to familiarize primary school children, secondary school students, parents and teachers with animation films. They are encouraged to watch critically and to contemplate the films, which is a necessary condition for any active and creative participation in media culture and art. To achieve this, Animateka will organize various activities.
For groups of primary school children, Kinodvor will feature the Elephant Animation Film Programme from Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 December. The programme is composed with regard to the three-year periods of primary school because it is important for children to see those films which are intended for and comprehensible at their age.
Teaching materials on animation films have been prepared, so that teachers can familiarize children with the basics of animation films in a very short time. The materials can be given to pupils without an additional workload for teachers and include the basics of animation films as well as a content analysis of the Elephant Programme. The analysis contains suggestions of teacher-pupils talks before and after viewing the programmes to enable children to understand what they have seen more easily and correctly.
This year high school students are invited to see the morning matinées of competition programmes and the animation film programme on human rights.
In cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture we are preparing a seminar on film education with an emphasis on animation film for teachers in primary and high schools, complete with presentations, screenings and a practical workshop. Throughout the school year, Animateka runs school workshops for pupils and students. As every year, professional animation film workshops have been going on since November 2006 at the Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts, the products of these will be presented to the public on the final night of the festival.
The Saturday family programme in the morning will be followed by an animation film workshop for children, entitled Animated film - from a drawing to a cartoon. Families are also warmly recommended to see the French animated feature Raining Cats and Frogs, which will still be shown at Kinodvor and the cinemas in Celje and Izola after 15 December.
