Pozabljene knjige naših babic: O šivilji in škarjicah/The Forgotten Books of Our Grannies: The Seamstress and Her Scissors

Eka Vogelnik, Slovenia, 2005, Beta, 155’

The fairy tale The Seamstress and Her Scissors was put down by Dragotin Kette. It tells the story of a girl named Bogdanka, the castle seamstress who had a pair of magic scissors: whatever she ordered, the scissors would cut out themselves, Bogdanka only had to sew. But the lady of the castle also wanted to get hold of the scissors. Some day she took the scissors from Bogdanka and chased her out of the castle. But envy and mischievousness never come to any good and in her zeal the lady of the castle gave the wrong order. Instead of cutting it out, the scissors cut all of the cloth into small pieces. Thus the little seamstress got her scissors back and, modest and kind-hearted as always, continued to sew…

Ko barvice ponorijo/When Coloured Pencils Go Crazy

Željko Ivančič, Slovenia, 2003, Beta, 3’

The schoolboy's satchel is a world in itself. Notebooks, books, pens, a rubber, glue, and of course the colourful pencils who want to exercise their power whenever they feel like it. They are real rebels and warriors! But not for long… the desk is not long enough, and if they are not careful, the waste-paper basket will be more than happy to welcome them.
