Elephant - Animated Films for Children

The new edition of the Animateka also turns its attention to children. From Wednesday, 14 December, to Saturday, 17 December, at 10 am, Ljubljana's Kinodvor is earmarked for children aged 6 to 12. The programme named Elephant consists of three thematic sections.

The first section is designed as a historical overview of Eastern European animated films from the archives of the Slovenian Cinematheque. The programme will showcase the classics which will be recalled by grown-ups from the small screen but which youngsters are unfortunately not yet familiar with. We will rouse from his long slumber little Mole, animated for may years by the Czech author Zdenek Miller, we will accompany the Polish little devils Bennie and Lennie on their adventures, laugh at the adventures of Gustav from Hungary and learn how to draw with Slovenian Bojan the Bear.

In cooperation with RTV Slovenia Youth and children’s programme we have prepared the programme of contemporary animated cartoons which are being shown on television. Those already familiar will be joined by the first showing of some novelties.

The third section will present the animated films from the competition programme which are also suitable for children. Foreign-language films will be dubbed into Slovenian language.

On Saturday, 17 December, the last day of the festival, best animated films for children from all three sections will be shown, afterwards there will be a workshop in Kinodvor's lobby entitled Cartoons – From a Drawing to an Animated Cartoon and led by Marjan and Mitja Manček. The workshop will introduce children to the first steps of the making of an animated film.
